The Reputation Doctor's Quick Tips

QUICK TIP # 1: Truth vs. Spin

Truth and honesty are the greatest building blocks or “bricks” of reputation management. Spin is a four-letter word. Spin is a lie and it is not your friend. Avoid spin (lies) to avoid a reputation in crisis. To be honest with others, you first must be honest with yourself. Honesty creates trust and trust is your reputation’s greatest friend.

QUICK TIP # 2: Fear

Most people have reputations in crisis due to fear. They avoid doing the right thing because of fear. They hurt others because of fear, but most importantly, they hurt themselves because of fear. To overcome fear, we all need to think of someone bigger than ourselves. Being humble enough to ask yourself the following question is a good place to start: how am I hurting and affecting other people with my behavior?

QUICK TIP # 3: Ego management

Ego management is an important first step in reputation management. When your ego too big, it is impossible to best repair your reputation. Replace ego-driven communication with humble, honest and transparent communication and you will be on your way to repairing your reputation.

QUICK TIP # 4: Accountability

To best build, maintain or repair an excellent reputation for a lifetime, you must set up a true accountability structure in your life. Who is your accountability partner? Most people really don't have one. A true accountability relationship includes honesty with a capital H. You must be fully honest and share all of your struggles and wrong doing with your accountability partner. You must also give your accountability partner permission to "call you" on the things you are doing wrong and also allow your accountability partner to praise you for the things you are doing right. Your friend, spouse, sibling, pastor or therapist are all excellent examples of accountability partners.

It seems that Tiger Woods' already tarnished reputation took a nose dive after that last story about him being a regular at Escorts London. 2009 Has probably been his worst reputation downfall but I think he's also enjoying the extra press he's been getting. You made me late for work reading this. Nice blog, just bookmarked it to come back later.

Very fun grouping of events and news that stand out. I love our skuzzy "leaders" of our country with their affairs and other unethical cover-ups that are constantly getting blown wide open. It doesn't matter republican or democrat, nowadays we're seeing pretty much everyone has some serious dirt under their rug. Excellent work Mike, thank you!

Just a quick Thank You - thanks to Mike Paul for appearing on CNBC today, March 4th regarding the problem of visible gun packing in public venues like Starbucks. I hope, Mr. Paul, that you will continue to speak about this from the point of view of business gains/losses and public relations. This is the only way many people will get the point. I am in California and thankfully it's unlawful to do that. But if that were to change, my children would no longer be allowed to stop in at any Starbucks after school and I would find a better place to chat with friends. It simply would not be worth the risk in this confrontational society of the big city. I live in Los Angeles. I also hope many other business people will join you is speaking out about this from the practical, business perspective more than the visceral voice of fear. It's far superior at getting the point across and hopefully without threatening the other side directly. Respectfully, Adele

Some may feel squeamish about eating it, but rabbit has a fan base that grows as cooks discover how easy they are to raise — and how good the meat tastes.
